RE: Confirmation of Change to Friday Timetable – Commencing 2022
As announced in our most recent newsletter Gladstone State High School will be adopting the 'Period 5" changes to the timetable to commence at the beginning of 2022. We would like to thank all members of the school community for your input and patience in relation to this exciting initiative.
As previously discussed these changes provide the platform for larger scale collaboration within our teaching teams with our working focus being on improving curriculum and teaching quality. Our staff are very excited by the positive impact this work will have on the outcomes of our students.
Summary of Changes to Friday's Timetable from 2022 -the school day will commence slightly earlier (8:50am) on a Friday with students moving straight to Period One (no care class on a Friday) -lesson durations on a Friday will be reduced to 55mins -regular classes and formal instruction will end earlier (1:20pm) on a Friday with students able to go home at this time -those unable to go home will be supervised by staff in a safe and supportive environment and will be able to complete homework and study in a self-directed model until 3:00pm -in the remaining time on Friday (Period Five, 1:50-3:00pm) our teaching teams will engage in additional professional work focussed on quality curriculum delivery and instruction for our students | Friday Day Structure for 2022 First Bell 8:45 Period One 8:50-9:45 Transition 9:45-9:50 Period Two 9:50-10:45 First Break 10:45-11:25 Period Three 11:25-12:20 Transition 12:20-12:25 Period Four 12:25-1:20 Second Break 1:20-1:50 (students can go home at 1:20) Period Five 1:50-3:00 (teacher collaboration time) |
Last week we began talking to the students about the changes for 2022. I would encourage families to also begin conversations at home about this as well especially in relation to the 1:20PM finish to formal instruction on a Friday.
Please note that further communication will be issued across the remainder of this term addressing processes related to students who remain at school during period five and other logistical matters related to the potential early finish for a majority of our students.
Yours sincerely
