Senior School Initiatives

  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) throughout the school
  • Work experience Opportunities
  • Learning Enhancement Subject Tutorials
  • Leaving School Programs
  • Career Pathways Program

Students in year 10 undertake a Careers Pathway Program, which is embedded into a core subject and will complete a Senior Education and Training Plan (SET Plan).  This plan is designed to map out their educational or vocational pathway.

Furthermore, work experience placements complement the learning and training students receive in their school subjects as well as developing employability skills that see our students compete extremely well for highly sought after positions within the Gladstone community and beyond.

The Technical College Program provides an opportunity for those students pursuing a vocational pathway to experience industry while still pursuing their QCE.

In Year 11, students will engage in up to 30 days work experience one day a week and also complete an offsite vocational certificate with an external RTO for one day a week. The school based subjects are a set structure with the ability to select between General and Essential Mathematics based on the desired pathway. In Year 12, students will attend school four days a week and participate in work experience on the 5th day for up to 30 days.

The Technical College also provides an opportunity for students already signed up to a School Based Traineeship/Apprenticeship to attend their days without missing any scheduled schooling. The benefits of this program allow students to finish school with their QCE, a vocational certificate, four placements of work experience as well as developing their skillset in readiness for job applications. This program has traditionally seen 89% of the Technical College students enter into an apprenticeship, traineeship, full time employment and/or further study related to their chosen vocational pathway. There has also been a 100% QCE attainment rate for those completing Year 12.
